Exhaust Cutout Placement

I bought my car with a really loud muffler. I'm planning to put a quieter muffler on it, and get a cutout.

My impression is most people put them right before the cat?

I want to stay SCCA F-stock legal, so it'll have to go behind the cat. Since the pipe is straight there anyway, I was thinking it should go at the first bend, near the rear axle. Then cutout open would let the exhaust shoot straight back, and closed force it around the bends to the muffler.

Anyway, any comments? Any recommendations on brand of cutout? Are electric ones good, so I can switch modes any time from inside the car?

Many thanks.

My experience is most people will put them right before the pipe goes over the axle I have mine right before the pipe starts to incline to go over the axle so its easy to get at anywhere but if you have the car lowered you may want to put it higher up.

Ditto on the spot before the axle. Mine is on the passenger side about 10-12in infront of the rear tire. Love the sound!
