Exhaust Cut-Out

I'm looking at a Mr. Gasket exhaust cut out. Are they worth it? Or is it basically for sound only? It's an electric cutout that welds on after the Y-Pipe. Let me know please!

Are you talking about the cable operated one? If so, dont get it. The door inside doesn't seal off fully one way or another. In terms it leaks and flutters like crazy, sounding like crap.

I would just get the Flowtech cut-out.

Positives:
1. Has a gasket to seal well.
2. Cheap ($30)
3. Sounds awesome!

Negatives:
1. Manual cut-out (so you have to work a wrench to close)
2. When you come home at night(with it open) I feel bad cause it's so damn loud.

What about the QTEC (I think that`s the name of the company) electric cutout? I just recently purchased a set of coated long tubes and an offroad y-pipe, and I am considering installing the cut-out I bought right after the y-pipe. However I don`t feel like getting pulled over every 5 minutes by the police, so I figured an electric cutout would be a good idea...

I have the Qtec and I'm pleased with it. Around here the cops really don't care, so I ride around with it open all the time, expect when I get tired of the droning. For no more than the whole setup cost, I wish I just skipped buying the muffler.

Don't get a QTEC, get a DMH. My QTEC leaked since day 1, so I sold it after 7 months of use for $115 w/cutout pipe. Got myself a Hooker cat-back and alot more low-end torque.

The problem I heard about the electric ones is that they leak a lot. I have never had a problem with the Police. If I pass one I just push the clutch in and have no problems. Haha

I have heard a lot of good stuff on the DMH one, but don't have one.

the electric cutouts are flow-tech cutouts.. The electric part is only a cover that you bolt on that opens via a switch instead of unbolting it.

Mine is a manual unit from Jegs. It only cost me $30. I welded it into my ORP. It's extremely easy to get to, and I can uncap it in seconds because it has wing nuts...Kevlar gloves required!.

Performance? It dropped me .2 with it open. 12.2 closed/12.0 open.

nice!

What can I expect on a stock car, or do you not recommend putting one on a basically stock car?

A lot of people run cutouts on stock cars, you can see as much as 15 RWHP on a bone stock car through a cutout.

IMO, the electric cutouts aren't worth the money. There are many that people are happy with, but I wouldn't want to dish out 130 bucks for a cutout... get a manual cutout for 30 bucks and be done with it.

I know, I already have the regular cutout, but the issue is I'm not sure if the cops are going to pull me over with a longtube & open cutout setup (only to then find out that I also removed my catalytic converter), so I wanted to have a electric cutout just to close when there happen to be cops around.
