Exhaust?

At the moment I have SLP short-tube headers and the Loudmouth, not a huge fan of how it sounds, but can live with it. I currently am using the stock y-pipe. I know for a fact that in the future I will be doing H/C and the bottom end. I was planning on investing in a Random Tech Y-pipe to keep cats on it and get a better flow. But since I am going to have the motor out anyways, I was debating a whole different exhaust set-up.

Kook's LT's w/ ORP
GMMG cat-back

I will be adding these into addition of ported heads, either a 224/230 cam or the GM 846 cam, behind a 355. Are the Kooks overkill? I really want stainless steel and HIGH quality. I do believe I will achieve the sound I am looking for? Any opinions?

Re: Exhaust?

I sold some stuff to a guy that had Kooks on his 96 T/A, and I was very impressed with the sound of it(straight pipe all the way back). Also, they had AWESOME ground clearence, I would definately buy em if I had the money.

Re: Exhaust?

There really is no need for the Kooks Steped headers unless you plan on spraying/boosting the car.

Re: Exhaust?

It depends on budget, Kooks equipment, although very nice and high in quality, is also very pricey.

Re: Exhaust?

I didn't plan on the stepped headers, I just wanted to get a high quality piece, which has good plug access, is stainless etc.. Is there any other LT on the market that offers the same? Is the switch worth it at all?

Re: Exhaust?

I cant think of another company on the market other than Kooks that makes a stainless steel header. You can, on the other hand, go with Pacesetter, Jet-Hot, or Hooker which are steel headers but you can get the option to have them ceramic coated. Overall, this will probably be half the cost of what you pay for a Kooks set, so like I stated earlier, it depends on your budget. Plug access is alot easier with LTs. I can get all of my plugs from the top now with the Pacesetters and they are a pretty decent header for the amount I paid.

Re: Exhaust?

Well the GMMG no doubt will be worth it. Got mine on a gp on ls1tech.com for $600 shipped so look around; they do a lot of gp's. I get compliments on it everywhere also (just got one yesterday from a guy when I went to my buddy's).

The Kooks I think would be overkill. They are sort of a more "all race" type thing to me. Basically, if you're at an obscene amount of hp, it might come in handy. Otherwise just go with another set of headers. Personally, I'm getting RK sport ceramic coated mids, just because they have ground clearance and flow close to what LTs do.

Good luck with whatever you go with.

Re: Exhaust?

Definately get the GMMG with Longtubes. It sounds great, and as unvc92camarors stated youll be getting compliments all the time. I am pretty sure unvc92camarors heard my setup.

As far as Kooks, I think with the power your looking at, its overkill. I personally think you'd be wasting you money unless your main objective is to get SS headers. With your setup you'll see very little if any gain from going to a 1 7/8" header. If you were planing on running low 11's, 10's or 9's, I 'd say run Kooks. But with just a H/C setup dont waste your money, get some ceramic coated Hookers or Jethots and spend that extra money on more efficient means. Mine are in great shape for being several years old and seeing winters. The collectors are slighty rusted, but winters will do that. Had I the means and time to clean them maybe 2-3 times this winter I am confident they'd still be in perfect condition.

I will tell you this, LT's, and ORY, and GMMG will sound incredible.

If you need help with the install In NE Ohio, let me know. BTW where are you located? If you want I could give you an in person sound demo.

Re: Exhaust?

Im right by Cleveland.. the Mentor/Willoughby area. I was thinking about going with the kooks based on the SS, the ground clearance, and plug access. From what I hear, the Kooks offer the best in those areas. Im not sure about going with the stepped ones, even the 1 3/4" to a 3" collector would be sufficient. I plan on doing something equal to a LE2/AI 180cc H/C package, with a 355 at most under it. Nitrous is also a big possibility.
