Exhaust ?

Does anyone have an idea on how much HP might be gained on a full bolt on car with LE heads and a small cam by taking the cat off? I have 1 5/8 shortie headers with a cat that I believe is choking the motor. I've heard the cat only cost about 5 to 7 HP on a stock set-up. What about my set-up? Bad enough I'm running shorties, should I lose the cat?

I know its expensive but it will flow almost as well as a "hollowed out" cat or a straight pipe and it keeps you legal and i like the sound.... I'm gettin one put in soon because i also think that my stock cat is slowing me down a good 5rwhp or so...

Re: Exhaust ?

As power increases, the restriction the stock cat poses increases as well, If youre in a state that requires it a good high high flow cat will really benefit you, if not no reason to keep it.

Re: Exhaust ?

Although replacing your cat with a straightpipe on a stock car will not do that much in terms of performance, it will definitely help if you suspect that your cat is clogged. You won't make more power, but you will make all the power that you're supposed to be, and that your car seems to be lacking if this is the case. btw the noise difference is minimal when going from cat to straight through pipe, many people I know couldn't tell the difference. Only a bit louder than stock since you still retain the muffler. If you have strict emissions laws where you live then definitely invest in a high flow cat like WS Sick said, especially since you will be running ported heads and a cam.

I lose .2 tenths with my FLP high Flow cats and a couple MPH as opposed to the FLP offroads that I run all the time...
