Exclamation Exchaust Cut-Out... Gain Power?

I am planning to purchase a cutout for my car just because I love to hear my car roar. But what type of gain do I get from a Exchaust Cut-out?

I would say its pretty decent gain... I think i remember some people saying a 10Hp gain over their aftermarket muffler... so, probably 15hp... You lose low end power and torque, but you can tell the top end power is alot better

I will have to agree with the above. I just had mine installed a few days ago, and I can notice a difference when it closed and when it is open. I think it is a worth while mod.

I have a McCord cut-out, and it also does not leak at all, and it costs ~$120

Re: Exchaust Cut-Out... Gain Power?

I did some testing with my cutout. Same night, same conditions.

1st run, cutout closed, 2.1 60', 9.108 @ 78

2nd run, cutout open, 2.1 60', 9.108 @ 78

I am not lying, and if anything the conditions were better for the second run as the night was progressing. I figured that after that first 9.108 I would at least get a 9.0X later in thte night, but nope, I even left it open through the night and never got better.

So, if there is a difference, the 1/8th mile doesnt show it. I think alot of it must be the driver hearing new sounds

Re: Exchaust Cut-Out... Gain Power?

I think it helps more if you have a more restricted exhaust. My cat back is a custom 2.5" after the y-pipe(no cat), going through a flowmaster big block muffler. On the dyno with it closed it put down 339rwhp/380rwtq. Open, it put down 351rwhp/364.9rwtq.
At the track with it closed, it ran a 13.305@105.4. Open it ran 13.03@107.6. Same conditions, lane, and launch technique.

I gained 7 RWHP with my cutout open on the dyno, and this is with the bad fuel pump causing the LEAN condition listed in my sig. I don't doubt the 10 HP gain if my car was running right.

I gained 7rwhp 9 ft/lb with mine. Back to back dyno pulls first pull capped, second pull open. And that is on the stock choker manifolds. Hope this helps.

Yep. My old cat back was a piece of junk, it really restricted exhaust flow. I guess I lost the tourqe because there was basically no back pressure. Oh well, the old exhaust is gone and I now have a bullet muffler and a turn down...

12.25 with the cut-out closed...12.05 with it open. Mine is a manual type, from Jegs. It's located in my ORP.
