Excessive tank pressure cause performance issues?
I read every post from now to 2003 and got no answer. When i remove my gas cap it releases a lot of pressure out of the tank. It is 25 degrees out and i had 1/8 of a tank plus i had only driven the car for 10-15 minutes if that matters. I want to fix the problem but what part(s) need to be replaced? Also what should i do to clean & be sure there is nothing plugged or damaged? Could this cause any perfromance issues also?
The EVAP system plastic tube near the inatke manifold is clogged up with charcoal from the failed EVAP canister.
The filter in the canister tears and the intakes sucks the charcoal from the canister to the intake and clogs the hard plastic line, when this happens the tank can not relieve the pressure through the EVAP system. Thats the gust of air you hear exiting the tank when you remove the cap.
You will need to clean the hard plastic tube tube out (major PITA) or just replace it as well as the canister. This happened to me and it has worked just fine since being repaired.
The gas tank will build up excess pressure which makes it IMHO very dangerous when the EVAP does not have the abilty to bleed off this excess pressure.
