Everyone with AS&M Headers: In Please

I will be getting the Headers soon. Just wanted to see what extras i should get. Here is a list of things, please add to it or tell me what you are using.

Taylor OVTC wire kit
New Plugs
Earl's pressure master header gaskets
Stage 8 Locking Header bolts
New O2 sensors
S-Pipe (to convert from 96 to 94-95 style)

Did anyone add any type of heat shielding (if so where)?

If i am missing anything, please chime in.

Thanks guys.

no heat sheilding for my 93s. i ran wires in the stock location on the driver's side and unbolted the tensioner pulley and ran the passenger side through the hole there. i did use msd fire sleeving for all my wires and it's been a month with no burned wires. for my bolts i used the breslin locking bolts and i like them much better then the stage 8s. you're going to need a bunch of closed wrenches in all different sizes and ground down around the outside to fit them inbetween the bolts and the primaries. for gaskets i used percy's dead soft aluminum and i have 0 leaks (even with 1 bolt missing....don't ask lol). the biggest tip i can give you is to make sure that the coupler for the y pipe is on the end before you tighten up the y pipe otherwise it can be a bitch. oh and by the way....the headers are bad *** and i love them.

Looks to me like you've got it all covered. If anything, I removed all the heat shielding.

A trick I found when doing the OVC wires with my ASM headers: For the #6 plug wire, you can't really run it under or over the #2 primary that is in the way. What I ended up doing was taking the plug wire from the harness all the way over to the strut tower, zip tied it to an electrical wire bundle, and then took it down and under the primaries to the #6 plug.

Hope this helps.

I found the Stage 8 bolts to be unusable. There isn't sufficient clearance between the bolt and the primary to fit the washer on many ports. Go with the Breslin Splitlocks.

i routed the wires in the stock location pretty much. I used the gaskets that come with the headers, but i now have a collector leak. The bolts on the collectors are almost impossible to tighten properly. I used a few zip ties to make sure everything was out of the way. Its been a year and about 5000 miles and everythings seems alright. Good luck. -Rob

Thanks for the replies. The advice is much appreciated.

One last question. What type of gaskets did you use for the collectors?

I used the ones supplied by AS&M, and they are barely servicable. The y-pipe was the poorest fitting component in my header set, so be careful assembling it. I would recommend that you use a thick copper collector gasket. Percy's seems to make a nice product.

Another note: tighten the pipe that connects to the passenger side header *before* you bolt the header to the exhaust ports. Once the header is in place, accessing the collector bolts is much more difficult. As long as you leave the driver's side pipe loose, you'll still be able to slip on the catalytic convertor flange.

you can use the stage 8's on every bolt on the headers. If the washer does not fit(which happens) just trim it until it does.

My advice is to use the thick aluminum gaskets to join the headers to the y pipe and use Extreme 9000 wires. I burnt my first Taylor set and I was careful. Since I have changed to both, I have had zero problems.
