EverClear.. an octane booster?

Does everclear work as an octane booster? We did it one drunken night to an old corolla i'm wondering though does it really work?

i've always had the assumption that if its intended for human consumption it PROBABLY wont sit well in the belly of a motor

everclear will run a lawnmower, never had the ***** to try it in a car though. if you drink it, then puke and pass out before cleaning it up, it will eat through the "clearcoat" of a linoleum floor (same night as lawnmower test). that stuff doesnt even play around... read the warning labels on the bottle.. i KNOW it will burn/combust, its just a matter of whats it going to do before it burns.

If you want a cheap octane booster... get toluene and marvel mystery oil... 10 gal 93 octane + 5 gal toluene + 26 oz marvel mystery oil = 100 octane. cheaper than everclear, although you cant get drunk off of toluene

seriously, why not just buy freakin higher-octane gas??

I don't think I could trust something that goes in my stomach to go into my engine. Although, after my past experiences with everclear, I'm not sure I want that in my stomach anymore!

It'll be great for passing emmissions... but damn pricey. You can do better with some 90+% alcohol from a drugstore (1 gallon per tank ).

As for octane... yes the octane will bump up a bit due to the ethanol (this is already done to gasoline... up to ~10%EtOH). I'd wager the water-content (unless you have some crazy 200-proof stuff ) would also help lower combustion temps. It's techincally not an octane rated product (it's chemically impossible to "burn" water), but it will help prevent detonation in small amounts.

without a chemical analysis of everclear, I'll jut go with this:

octane? up a bit
emmissions? down a bit
wallet? much leaner...

use premium gas, unleaded race gas, or invest in some toluene... pass on the alchols (they just rob power).

no big deal. sugar's a carbohydrate... easily disolved in petrol products... especially when it's in such a small amount that it's already disolved.

I wouldn't make a habbit of it... but there are many worse things that could get into your tank.

lol... trust me... it does.

If everclear stripped finish like that your gut would be in serious trouble after 30 seconds or so. My vote goes for the enzymes and HCl (stomach acid).

Everclear is either 190 proof.
