Ever Heard of "Hydro-Lock" condition?

Just wanted to share this in case others experienced the same thing. Recalling my original post about my first 0-60 run and then the car running EXTREMELY rich....

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...2&page=1&pp=15

Since the engine eventually wouldn't even crank, I had it towed to a service station. They found the problem!!!!

The #1 fuel injector was stuck in the wide open position allowing fuel to dump straight into the Combustion chamber. Then, the engine experienced a condition called "Hydro-Lock" where so much fuel was in the chamber (when both valves were closed) the fuel had nowhere to go and the starter didn't have enough torque to spin the engine enough to get to the point where a valve opened. That's why the engine wouldn't even crank over. And to think I was ready to buy a new starter! Whew!

The mechanic there said I was lucky that I didn't get the engine started since so much fuel had been pushed past the piston rings and dumped into the oil. Had the engine started, I very well could have ruined the block!

That would explain why I got the SES code for the Bank 1 fuel trim running rich. Well, at least I can attest the computer is doing it's job!

SO....if anyone experiences a VERY rich condition all the time, especially after (cold/warm/whatever) a WOT run, check your injectors for a stuck-open condition.

Going by what many have suggested, I ordered a new fuel pressure regulator but didn't install it since the car was at the shop by the time it came in the mail. SO now I have a FPR sitting around in case the original one goes bad. In hindsight, I'm sure if it WAS the FPR, both banks would have been reading rich...not just the driver's side.

I'm back on the road....AND my K&N Stage 2 CAI has come too! Yea Baby!!!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and tips. Even though the problem turned out to be something totally different, I did learn a LOT about the LT1 and various components by reading and asking.
