ET Streets and the Highway

I'm going to the track tonight for the first time with ET streets.
Typically I drive on either a bypass, or the toll road to get there for about 15 minutes. Would this be not a good idea on ET streets? I drove them on the street last night for a little while....and wow, what a difference. They really HOOK! I had them around 19-20 psi. Is that okay? Or, would I be better off driving my regular tires there and changing at the track? Or, I could just stay away from either highway and just drive through the city...which would you guys recommend from your experience?

drive your regular tires there and change em at the track. It will save wear on the ET-streets, plus you won't die if you hit a puddle

There was a post about this a while back on LS1tech.com. Some of those guys were getting about 6-7k miles out of their ET Streets and hitting the track more than twice a month!

ET Streets are a race tire with DOT approval. They are not intended to be driven on the street. They will hydroplane at 25mph. Street driving will wear them out and use up the natural oils in the rubber. They are intended for track use only. There is also no protection from road hazards like in a regular tire and the sidewalls are soft and can roll off the rim in a corner.

That said, I have tried them on the street. After two nights being stranded (once because of rain and once because of a flat), I have a separate set of rims and change tires at the track.

I run ET streets on my Grand National and it's about a 30 mile drive each way to the local track. I always put them on at home and drive the car to the track and back with them on. Never had a problem yet and even drove home in a light rain once.... I've got about 10 trips to the track with an average of 8 passes each day plus the drive back and forth and I'd say the tires still have 1/4 tread left on them.

I run them at about 25 psi for the drive out and drop them to 12-14 psi at the track. I also bring an air tank to fill them back up for the drive home. As long as the weather is good I see no problem driving on them on the street....
