Exclamation Erratic Idle

Here's the story..

I just purchased a 1994 Z28

Drove it home from Maryland (ended up being 580 miles)

When the car idles, the RPM's will jump up, and then down
-idle RPM to maybe 1300 or so, then back down to normal
-Time between normal idle, and the rise in idle is somewhat predictable

When at a stop light, it will sometimes do this, causing the car to lurch forward requiring more braking effort.
-(When it does, this I just pop it in to neutral.)

The guy I bought it from said he reaplaced the distributor recently

Any ideas? I really want to get the car running normal again
-Thanks in advance!

Re: Erratic Idle

Well, I don't feel any power loss (for the most part)

When it starts acting up, it is a little sluggish at times.

Today, I took a friend out to show him the car, it was fine.
Upon stopping at a place next to my house where a lot of car guys hang out, the idle started acting up. On the way home it drove alright, but was sluggish a little. The best way I can visualize it, is if you can imagine the butterfly ( Not sure if that's the real name) vale on the throttle body not opening far enough to let air in. So it feels like it's being held back. Kinda like running while breathing through a straw, it just kinda seems like a little sputter.

Thanks!
