engine upgrades

I have an lt1 that spun a bearing years ago that was just bored 30 over due to pitted cylinder wall from sitting outside. I just finished rebuilding it with new factory crank, reused the rods, new pistons, stock cam.

Is there anything I can do to the engine before its all together, that is not expensive to add any kind of HP? I built this engine and it is the first time and hopefullyit runs good so I can take the one in the car now and build a nice performance engine.

Re: engine upgrades

It depends on how much money you have to spend and what your timeframe is. Don't expect much performance from a stock rebuild and a stock cam, so I would reconsider your cam choice.

Is there a cam that can be used with stock heads, rockers, springs?

Re: engine upgrades

Not really...???... even a stock cam would like a stiffer set of springs
The springs , 1.6rr and guide plates should only set you back 500 bucks

Re: engine upgrades

A couple bolt ons that work are a cold air induction system and a catback exhaust.

What would a higher stall torque converter do? I have a posi 2.73 Torsen unit installed.

Re: engine upgrades

How about changing to an electric water pump while you have everything apart? Then seal where the hole used to come through to drive it...Just an idea...

Re: engine upgrades

The stall will make it a little faster off the line but no more horsepower...good bang for the buck !!
I think the stall set me back 700 dollars plus installation .....I would skip the electronic water pump!!!
before you get a stall you will need to know what gears and what cam you plan on using
they all need to work together....most people seem to like something around 3k on a daily driver

I'd put in steeper gears before I'd do a torque converter....especially with a stock(ish) engine and 2.73 gears.

For your car, I'd consider some 3.42 gears......3.73 gears if you're really feelin' 'giddy'!

Wait until you've built up the other engine before going with the TC.

1. You can pump coolent through the engine at a constant rate even with the engine turned off. Just have the key turned to accessory mode.

2. Eliminates water pump drag on the engine.....frees up 5-10 HP....depending on who you listen to.

Ok, I've decided to just keep this build stock and when I tear the engine out I will slowly start building that and asking for help because I have no clue......

There is a complete 383 Stroker kit on Ebay for #$1600, check it out tell me what you guys think.

Re: engine upgrades

Typically eBay stroker builds are a BAD idea. I would avoid them like the plague.
