Engine Temp. Just below half ?

My engine is running just below half way on the highway. Where should it sit. When I first got the car it ran just above a quarter on the gauge and never changed.

usually these cars run pretty hot. like around 3/4 gauge stock

did you do anything to make this change you speak of? i would most likely suspect a bad temp sending unit - to the gauge not the pcm.

Mine runs just above the 1/4 mark with the stock thermostat. Make sure you aren't low on coolant and that nothing is blocking air flow to the radiator. A damaged air dam can also affect air flow to the radiator. If those are okay I would change the thermostat. It could be a bad sensor or gauge. If you have or can borrow a scanner you can see what the pcm sensor is showing and how it compares to your gauge.

That's not bad, mine runs ~ 190-210* with the fans tuned to kick on a bit earlier than stock. Check for leaves under the radiator, ensure your thermostat isn't stuck open, etc.

I own 2 '95 Z's and both gauges hover just above the 1/4 mark.
The bottom mark is 160* and the top-most 260*, which gives us
a 100 degree spread; the 1/2 way mark would be 210* and the
1/4 mark would be 185*. The only time the gauge approaches
the 1/2 mark is when in stop-n-go traffic - and that's with our
95+ degree / 90% humidity days in southern Texas.

why would his car have a problem if it runs cool? I think the problem would be your car running 3/4 of the way. my le3 355 runs a little under the 1/2 mark

I just put a front lip on the other day and ever since I've noticed the gauge reading higher. I was not going to worry about it if other people run around the same temp with no problems. Before the lip my gauge sat around 1/4. I have a extra fan sitting around maybe I might mount it in front of the rad.

You need a lower air dam to compensate for blocking the stock airflow to the radiator.

my car runs around 1/4 also - but that is with a lower thermostat and tuning to turn the fans on sooner.

if his car was always reading one thing and suddenly reading another there might be a problem. i dont think his car has a problem but rather the gauge is not indicating the correct temperature

and a stock car with a system operating correctly should be considerably warmer, which is why i stated to the other person his car might have a problem also being that he stated his was stock

i dont see what is so funny about his gauges giving him an incorrect reading

I already installed a air dam that is 1.5 inches longer and it did not make much of a difference. I also have a 160 thermostat and my fans come on early. I have my nitrous system mounted under the rad cover so I'm going to move that just incase its blocking some of the air flow.

I've owned the car since new and it has always run just above the 1/4 mark on the highway. That should be around 195 degrees the way my gauge is marked. Seems about right to me for a 180 degree thermostat.

The stock gauge is never really a good way to tell your EXACT temperature. Only thing its good for is to show whether the engine is either really hot or cold.

There is nothing wrong with the gauge being at the half way mark though.
