Question Engine Swap.....

Hey I have a 1995 Z28 Camaro and I'm pretty sure the engine is going out. The temperature gauge sits at zero and the oil pressure is practically at zero as well. I have replaced all the sensors and the gauges are still not working. I'm looking to buy a 2000 C5 Corvette engine. Its a 5.7 just like my LT1, will the Corvette engine line up/fit into my car?

PLEASE HELP

Well for starters welcome to this site. The problems I see already are the cluster, sending unit and or a wire can be bad so to swap a motor based on that alone could be drastic at this time. Then you say the 2000 Vette engine is the same 5.7 as you currently have, you have am Lt1 that year Vette has an Ls1 in it so NO they are not the same and will require major harness modifacations aswell as needing an Ls1 F- body K member 1998-2002

Yeah I'm going to be checking and replacing all the sensors and wiring this weekend and see what that does. I really dont wanna spend that kinda money on a new engine if I dont have to.

You definitely have too for an LS1 swap. It would be much cheaper (if that's the route you're wanting to go) to just get a used LT1 from a 1993-1997 camaro or firebird or from buick roadmasters, chevy caprices, etc

Very easy to put a mechanical oil pressure guage on and they run about $50 for a decent one.

Re: Engine Swap.....

There is one sensor for the coolant temp and one sensor for the oil pressure so replacing ALL of the sensors doesn't make much sense.

GM p/n 25037332 - coolant temp sensor.
GM p/n 19244497 - oil pressure sensor.

If the OP sensor doesn't fix your problem verify the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge ($40 or so from any parts store) and install it temporarily above the 1/4" NPT port above the oil filter.

Re: Engine Swap.....

Thank you guys, I am new to fixing things like this and you guys are a HUGE help. Would all of the oil pressure problems also explain shifting? Its a manual and before this problem it would shift smoothly at around 2300-2500. But the other day when I was tying to drive it, it would shift at 2000-2200. Its this part of the oil or is this something else I need to look into? I just did an oil change last week, full synthetic and K&N performance filter.

First, did you change the correct coolant temp sensor? There's one on the water pump housing for the PCM, and one i the driver's side head for the dash gauge. Almost sounds like the wire fell off the one in the head.

You indicate you have a manual trans, but then you indicate "it would shift smoothly" at lower RPM. Since you decide when to shift a manual trans, that's sort of confusing.

The oil pressure in the engine would not affect the shifting of a manual transmission. But it really sounds like you have an automatic trans. Oil pressure in the engine wouldn't affect shifting, but throttle position would.
