Engine Stalling

my 94Z keeps on stalling on me. The car will start up fine and run perfect until the car reaches operating temperature where the engine just dies. When I start the car back up the car will run fine for about a few seconds while the SES light comes on and then the tachometer will start jumping around has the engine struggles to stay running and the car starts to shake and u can hear puffs coming out of the exhaust. Ive talked to autozone, murrays, advanced auto parts, and NAPA trying to rent an OBD1 scanner but all they have are OBD2. I did find this 12pin ALDL that might work and use my laptop, but im an unsure whether or not will work. What is the cheapest way to pull the codes??? I am thinking its a throttle sensor , coolant temp sensor or an O2 sensor. Please help me cause this problem is starting to drive me crazzy!!!

strip back both ends of a short wire and put them into the top farthest to the right metal pins where you would hook the scanner on. turn the key on and it should flash you your codes.

93 LT1 is the only one that you can flash the codes by shorting the ALDL pins. Doesn't have anything to do with how many pins it has. 94/95 require an ODD-I scanner like the AutoXray, or software like Freescan or TTS DataMaster. Both those software packages are free downloads. You just need a cable. DataMaster is only good for 20 uses, and then it will ask you to license it.

It all makes sense now. I've been using the useless wire trick for three years now and never got any codes out of it.
