engine SEEMS to lack power

95 firebird. LT1. k&n fipk intake, bbk headers, spec 3 clutch, exhaust. and recently i bored it .30 over and put the cc503 cam in it.

the motor has been back in for about 3 weeks. it just doesnt seem to have the power it should.doesnt seem to pull as hard as it should. should i have gapped the plugs differently with the bigger bore? im only runnin 7mm wires, soon to 8.5mm...would that help any? doesnt appear to have any vacuum leaks..maybe the fuel filter? any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

for example..there was a 5.0 mustang that only ran a 8.73 in the 1/8th and since then he has put 3.73s in the rear. i ran him after he did the gears and probably only pulled him by the most 2 cars...it just doesnt seem to be its full potential..

You overbored it by 0.030", to 4.030". Increasing the displacement by 1.5% (5.3 ci) isn't going to provide a noticable performance increase.

Stock plug gap and 7mm wires should be fine, assuming the plugs and wires are new.

The cam should have produced a noticable differnce. Who tuned it for the cam? Was the cam degreed?

An 8.73 1/8 isn't that bad and would put him in the low 13's with a trap around 107. Are the heads stock? Without a good tune you will not see its full potential? Having slicks and lower gears yourself will help a lot. Put a full signature so we know all the mods.

are there any immediate problems i should check for? occasionally when im just cruisin along not under heavy acceleration it seems to miss a little hear and there. ill be drivin and it kind of jerks every now and again. under acceleration it doesnt really seem to do it except a LITTLE at really low rpms. i may have fouled a plug. iv already checked a few and one seemed to be pretty bad so i replaced it. could this be one of my problems?

was i just expecting to much out of what i got done?? there just doesnt seem to be much of a difference with the before and after..

You'll notice a world of difference with a tune.

You need a tune. If you need help in doing that, you came to the right place. Your looking for a problem and not having a tune is your problem. Maybe something else is going on but fix the stuff you know is wrong. I have a laptop with the datamaster free program on it and a cable was all I needed and it was around $65. I sent the data to the tuner to get the car dialed in.

Trifecta performance. They are a supporting vendor no need for you to go out and buy cables or anything, they send you everything you need in a handy little unit. You plug it into your diagnostic port, tap the screen a few times, let it reprogram the pcm. Un hook it, put it back in its case and send it back to them prepaid if im not mistaken.

one more thing i forgot to mention. when i first start the car up and it is running in open loop..it seems to idle fine but under any load at all it pretty much runs terribly..but once it warms up and gets into closed loop it almost clears up completely.. o2 sensor maybe?? or does it just need to be tuned that bad?

Did you have the 503 cam in it before the rebuild?
