engine removal not going well

I have removed the motor from my Z but i cant seem to get the trans to let loose. My dad and i think we may have removed the bolts from the bellhousing too close to the motor. Anyone have a pic of the correct place to unbolt the trans from the motor? Any help is greatly appreciated!

1) Did you remember to disconnect the clutch fork from the throwout bearing? Pull the fork away from the input shaft until it pops loose. Make sure it's not hanging up even if you have already disconnected it.

2) To answer your question, there are two rows of bolts towards the front of the transmission. The rearmost bolts hold the transmission to the bellhousing, and the frontmost bolts hold the bellhousing to the block. I usually separate the transmission from the bellhousing first (as I pull the transmission before pulling the engine), but I don't believe it's a requirement.

3) If you're still having trouble, then it's most likely an alignment problem -- ie, you're not pulling the transmission out concentric to the input shaft pilot bearing. Try raising or lowering the rear of the transmission as you pull -- change the angle at which you're pulling the transmission out.

You want to keep at least 2 of the bell housing bolts in until you've disconnected the stall (or in your case the clutch/flywheel from the engine) then disconnect the bell housing and slide the tranny away.

As Alex mentioned, check the clutch fork. Sounds like you didn't pull it out from engaging the throw out bearing. Take the clutch slave cylinder off and the mounting bracket. Grab the clutch fork and pull it down.

If you've already disengaged the fork and all the bolts out from the trans to bell housing(leave the bell housing bolted to the engine), then the input shaft is in a bind. You need to unbind the input shaft from the clutch disk and that is done by making sure the gap between the trans and bell housing is equal all the way around before you pull it backwards from the engine. Typically this is done by moving the trans up or down(slightly) to free it.

Whatever you do, don't force anything. If it does not pull free easily, then something is in a bind and you need to readjust.

Did you remove the top bolt? The easiest way to reach it is through the shifter opening with about three foot of extensions. After thought; Drop the engine from the bottom and save yourself alot of hassle...

Assuming all the bolts are out (Which I am sure if you can get the motor out, you are competent to have this done), then the clutch fork is the only thing that could be holding it on.
