Engine Rebuild
Engine Rebuild
Alright, I am fairly new to this concept however since I have 133,XXX miles I figured I might as well start looking into it.
I've got 1.6SA-RR, a small cam similair to hotcam, I will also be installing pacesetter LTs. My transmission was overhauled at 120K with new opti, and waterpump, new battery, new alternator.
So now I am being proactive about stuff that breaks. I figure once I throw that cam in there my engine will bite the dust. Where can I get a cheap rebuild kit I remeber seeing one that was about 480 dollars and it included everything oil pump, gaskets, pistons, rings, ect ect. I want to say summit but I can't find it on there.
Also if I do get the rebuild kit I'd like to make the engine a 355 is it possible to do that by changing the thickness of the piston?
And also do I need a new rotating assembly? And how much should I expect for labor?
Choose to answer any questions, or post some kind of material I tried sifting through stuff but I found it to be a tad specific to individuals situations. I am going to continue to search I just thought I'd post this up so people can relate to personal experiences and what the best way to going about this would be.

Re: Engine Rebuild
There, now I don't know which one I need. There are several bore sizes and what not. What anyone know what I should look for a stock rebuild or slightly bigger?

Re: Engine Rebuild
I think summit can be flexible with those kits meaning you don't have to stick with every exact part. A 0.03" over piston is needed to get 355, and the pistons in that kit are 0.04" over.
Have the motor taken apart and let the shop measure your crank, based on that get the needed bearing size.

I think Im gonna stick with a 355.
Hey why wouldn't I want to buy one of these 189.99 crankshafts from summit? Or one of the 589.99 ones for that matter.
I've noticed a difference from 189-3,000 dollars. Whats the difference? Are the 189 ones weaker than stock?
