Engine rattle driving me nuts!!

Been fighting this for months now. No local shops have a clue what's going on.

Car surges at idle whether its hot or cold. When the idle drops it rattles very loud from the passenger side.

Here's what we've done:

Replaced all of the lifters with new ones.
Re-lashed all of the rockers.
Ran the car with all of the accessories disconnected.

Makes no sense.

Mods: auto tranny, 383 LT1, AFR rev kit, etc.

The rattle sounds almost like when you don't have enough voltage in the battery to get the starter to turn the motor over and it just rattles. Only thing is its doing this when the car is running and idling low.

Would a bad bearing do this??

Loose timing chain?

Re: Engine rattle driving me nuts!!

this maybe a long shot, but worth a look at. I had a similar problem that drove me nuts and I couldnt find it for like 3 months. Turns out, they were the caps I used to cap off the AIR fittings on my long tubes. They were just rattling and spinning inside the fitting...

Nope. No air fittings on my headers. Its also suring at idle and has a low idle.

Re: Engine rattle driving me nuts!!

Do you have an M6?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the input shaft rattle that m6's are notorious for at idle? Sometimes engine surge can cause that sound too.

Nope its an automatic. CHecked the flexplate and torque converter as well. Noise is coming from the motor.
