Engine Is overheating in 1997 Z28

I pulled into my driveway the other day, only to be welcomed by a popping noise and steam pouring out from under my hood. I turn the car off and what do you know, my upper radiator hose had ripped open, spilling all of my fluid all over my engine compartment. I Have replaced that hose, and am going to replace the lower radiator hose tomorrow, just as a precautionary measure cuz it looks pretty bad as well. Since I have replaced the upper hose yesterday my car's temp gauge has gone to max twice...as if the thermostat is stuck....because I have driven my car like 6-7 times since i replaced the old hose, and added the correct amount of fluid... and it has for the most part been fine, except for those two random instances that the temp gauge went to max. Do you think its the thermostat sticking? Is there anyway to test the thermostat to see if its still good? The car has 142,000 on it. Any preference to what kind of thermostat I buy, if i do end up needing one? thanks

It seems weird that this "mystery overheating" is occurring right after i replaced one hose....

I am thinking you have some air in your cooling system. try bleeding the system again.

I agree, you probably just trapped some air in there when you replaced the upper radiator hose. Bleed the system and you should be good to go.

okay, the problem is my fans are not coming on.... i checked the fuses and power relays...and they are fine....tomorrow i am gonna hook up my battery directly to the plugs for the fans to see if they work. If they don't then I would say i need knew fan motors... if they do work, then idk what the problem is. i know there is a temperature control sensor I could check as well.

Shoebox has a very good writeup on cooling system testing.
