engine noise

Sounds like it to me. Or at least, that's what my last rod bearing blowout sounded like. Either way, you're looking at a tear-down.

yeah...kinda what i thought to. kinda low mileage car to have issues like that but ya never know. heres a link to it on craigslist. http://terrahaute.craigslist.org/cto/1625040672.html He also said it has a miss when you drive it...wouldnt think a rod bearing would do that would it? also said it comes and goes.

Well, first thing first, why on earth was he still driving it with it making that noise? The longer he's driven it, the more you're going to have to fix if you buy it.

That said, I would put that money towards another ride without potential money-sinking issues, unless you plan on yanking the engine anyway for something else. But 3k with a sound like that, that's debatable.
