Engine Dies While Driving
Engine Dies While Driving
Hey Everyone, I need your help with this one. About a month ago, I was driving down the highway and my car just died. The tac went crazy, the shift light came on, and the check engine light came on. I pulled pver, tried cranking it back up, and it would not start. I let it sit for about 20 minutes with the hood up, then it cranked right up. I let it sit at idle while I checked out whatever I could with no tools and didnt find anything wrong. Right as I was pulling into my driveway, it died again. I decided to let it sit over night and check it out in the am.
The next day, I tried starting it up and it cranked right up. I checked the fuel pressure, it was good, checked for leaks onto the opti, nothing. Decided to drive it around the neighborhood. I get the car up to operating temperature and it just died again. This is when I assumed it was the ICM since it is the original module and hooked to the cylinder head.
Next day, I replace the ICM and my car runs perfect. I drive it around all day, no issues. I drive it around all last month, this weekend, no problems. Yesterday I was driving down the road, the same thing happened. Engine died, tac went crazy, and the check engine light came on. Luckily I was passing the Advanced Auto where I bought the ICM last month so I coast in. I assumed I had just gotten a bad module so I order a new one and leave my car overnight. Today, I go pick up the module, install it and start driving home. As I am driving, the same thing happens, but now my car is sitting on the side of the road. I need help with this one. I need to get my car fixed ASAP. I am assuming it is an ignition problem since the tac is acting up with the problem.
It is a 1993 Trans Am. Here is some maintenance history that pertains to this gripe. 2 new ICM's, within 2 days of each other. Opti spark is about a year and a half old. When I installed the new opti, I installed a new MSD blaster coil and MSD 8.5 mm plug wires. Fuel pressure is around 35 psi at idle and 41 psi WOT. It has a custom programmed ECM. The problem only happens when the engine heats up. The car runs pretty much normal, while running, maybe just a little righ though.
Like I said, I dont know what else to look at and my car is sitting on the side of the road. I dont really have the money for someone to look at it all week long and charge me an astronomical price for something I can fix. Please let me know what to look at so I can get this sorted out. Thanks for the help guys.
