Engine clatter ? on new 383
Engine clatter ? on new 383
Well, that about says it. New 383, 224/236 cam in AFR 195cc heads. Forged pistons set at .0045 clearance.
Engine clatters at 2000 - 3000 rpm on the drivers side, clatters cold and hot. It doesn't clatter at an idle or in the higher rev ranges, but the noise is definitely there, I was thinking lifters out of adjustment ??
I'm not exactly sure if the noise is load related, though it is much more noticeable when moving. Oil pressure seems good.
Any thoughts appreciated

Thx for the input.
The block was clearanced for the crank, not sure about how much though.
The rockers are full roller non self aligned, they are a very tight fit in there as well, going to check that first ...
When we get to the bottom of this, I'll be sure to post the result.

My valve train noise increased when I installed 1.6 crane rockers and springs. Slight noise at idle some increase at 1200rpm noise reduces at higher rpms. I have readjusted the valves and this did not reduce the noise. I think some of the lifters are leaking down at a different rate and make more noise. The additional load on the lifter due to the rocker ratio and increased spring force may be part of the reason I have more noise after the modification. My car still has the stock cam.
