Engine bay pics!

I started my header install about a month ago...had to end up doing several other things as a result. Finally got everything done now though. I have Jet-Hot LT's, and off road Y, and Taylor OTVC wires. Those are the new additions for now. Here's some pics.

Yes, they're used headers so they don't look as shiny as they once did. I don't care though, they still perform just the same. One thing I read about was people having issued with oil seeping up from under the looms. I put some high temp RTV on the undersides of them to prevent that from happening to me. Seems to do the trick, although I have to reseal one. The others are oil free even after a few runs. That one's seeping a little bit though.

The orange wire looms around the engine bay will be going away soon. They were OK until all the red from the wires came in and added to the STB. I'm also going to paint the fins on the intake red. They're currently orange also. The orange just looks out of place now.

Pitch those orange looms and you will be good to go. The wiring job looks good. I haven't had any problems with those particular looms seaping oil.

The orange is on it's way out...as far as under the hood goes. They were all put on there by the previous owner, they've reached the end of their life expectancy. I've got plans to bring the orange back on the outside and interior of the car though.

The orange is gone! (except for the intake manifold, I haven't gotten to that yet.) Here's a couple pics. I also took a little time to clean up the plastic and rubber under there. Everything's nice and shiny now.

I figure that's about all the red loom I can add before it starts looking tacky. The next project is to take the alternator off and clean it up a bit. It's easy enough to remove, so why not?

Looks like a good scheme how you wrapped all the wires too.... I might do that.
Mineral spirits on the white, actually and armor-all wiped on the black stuff with a sponge. I went behind that and used some light polishing compound. (Mother's mag and aluminum polish) I still have a lot of work to do to really bring out the brilliance of the white again, but there's plenty of time for that. I think she looks mighty nice under there for having 122k miles. The pictures do hide some of the dirtiness, but it's not that bad even in person.

Looks clean, but that RTV around the header flange is not your answer to solve a header leak. If you do develop a leak it'll burn through that sealant in a very short period of time.

I applied it to the head before sitting the gaskets on it. Tightened everything down and, of course, a little squeezed out. I had seen that it was a decent idea to put the RTV on the gasket as a little extra security. Seems to be fine for now. Time will tell if it was a good idea or not. If not, I'll just clean it off and go without next time.

As long as the header flange is true there is no need for sealant. Fel-Pro-1406 header gaskets work very well for headers.
