Wait a minute!

Reading your newer posts - it barely failed with the tuned PCM, you put in a stock PCM, didn't let it learn, and then it failed badly and started smelling like gas?

Exactly!

So, I installed a 180 degree thermostat today and put a little 'heet' in the tank. I hope it's enough to pass lol... If not I will have to see if I can get my hands on a fuel pressure test guage and see if the fuel pressure regulator is not performing as it should or if there is a leaking injector.

I'll update once I go to the emissions testing again lol...

Many thanks to everyone for all of the help!

update.

Hi,

Just wanted to update the post a bit as I have narrowed it down even more.

I took out a spark plug and it looked as it should. It was creamy white(ish) tan and the puck was still in place (AC-Delco plats).

I am going to try and see if I install a 180 degree thermostat if that will be enough to help me with that last tenth of a point I need to pass. Last time I failed by less than a tenth (allowed HC is 1.5 and I came in at 1.59).

Wish me luck lol... Oh yeah, I added some "heet" to the tank too. ;-)

Failed again! :-(

Hi,

So I just got back from the emissions test. The HC's got a lot better but I still failed. They went down from 3.6 to 2.1 but I need to be on the other side of 1.5 to pass!

After researching a bit it seems that I may have done something I shouldn't have... When I put in my headers I lengthened the wires of the O2 sensors. I lengthened them after the wiring harness but before the plug for the O2 sensor with copper wire. Could this be why I am still running so rich lol? I bet!

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Jason

Thumbs up Re: Emissions related help inquiry inside...

Hello,

A follow up to this post to help others in similar situations. The replacement catalytic converter was the problem. We replaced the 2 year old aftermarket converter with another and the problem was immediately solved. I've passed emissions ever since. Thanks for all who helped all those years ago.

Best regards,
Jason

Always good to get feedback on what fixed the problem….. even 13 years later

Unfortunately there aren’t many people posting here any more, and even fewer trying to provide help. Goes for days sometimes without a new post.
