Emissions and cam
Emissions and cam
I have been searching the forum to see if people were passing emissions with big cams and it only brought up more questions. I am rebuilding my motor and i was planning on going with an Ai 234 / 242 - .575/.580 cam. I live in NC and the only testing i have seen them do is plug into the dash port with the car running, no dynos or tailpipe sniffers. So the question is will it pass?
the other question is that i thought that only 96+ cars with the obd2 had to pass emissions. I saw on some threads that guys with obd1 cars (pre 96) were having to pass emissions, they were in different states i.e. California, Arizona, and others. so do some states require obd1 cars to pass emissions?

Yes..I live in NC also and all they do for 96 and up is plug into the ALDL and make sure that all the readiness codes are set to ok. You can go to whatever type of cam you want as long as you get a tune to make the computer think everything is ok. A tune will help ensure that the combustion process is optimal and the cats should work as designed with no issues.
