Emergency help with jet hots..! Pics **

building a 357, putting the engine in the car through the bottom..(done before) on a lift. drop the subframe on the ground, lift car up, put engine with headers and transmission, drop car on frame..that all went fine..

then put the car up in the air. and my drivers side header isn't paralell with the bottom of the car, its on a slight upward angle..to the point where my y-pipe wont go on. and even if it would go on, my transmission cross member is in the way...yes its the dented hooker off road y pipe. !!! any suggestions? i need to figure this out asap cuz if i need to drop the engine again to put on another header, i'm not going to continue to finish the engine swap..
i had jet hots on it before they didn't have this problem...i sold my other ones and bought new ones..and the new one is having the problem.

Yea, they can be different. My flange almost touches the floor. I had to cut the lip (most people do) on the crossmember to get the y-pipe to fit. I also have the dented jet-hot y-pipe.

They will go in. Mine were within less than 1/2". You will need to do some prying to get the y-pipe bolted on, but it will work.

Same situation with a friends car - it will take multiple people in different places to make it work best...

Re: Emergency help with jet hots..!

I had the SAME issue, what we did was the following, we tilted the motor back alittle, got the y -pipe connected to the flange of the header and then put the motor back level. By doing this the y-pipe sits nice and snug agianst the bottom of the car, no more y-pipe hitting the floor board either. We actually loosened up the motor mounts put a peice of wood between the header area and the bottom body and torqued it alittle too to get some more room. It worked out great.

Re: Emergency help with jet hots..!

by doing that, then you would have to be putting a ton of pressure on the head right? constant pushing down on the headers??
forgot to mention, the motor mounts with my previous jet hots had 135,000 miles on them, these motor mounts are new...
i added a few pics,,, they are in my first post also..
