Electric Water Pump or stock

OK, my waterpump just went out this past weekend. I have a few questions about what I should replace it with.

Electric or Stock? (I can get a stock one free from a friend but it has quite a few miles on it)

Meizere or CSI?
which is better quality?
where is the best place to get a good deal on one of these?

is there any real hp gains to be had from one of these pumps?

I bought a Mez. electric one 2 years ago. I liked it because I got a little HP gain. The biggest benefit was the improved cooling. The electric pump provides a constant flow rate, so in idle traffic you are getting good flow of coolant. The stock pump works off your engine and the flow varies depending on rpm.

The other benefit i got was I was able to easily bleed my cooling system. Just open the bleeder and turn on the pump. Easy as that.

The only think to consider is if it wears out (say after 3-4 years). You won't have a water pump so you might get stranded.

My 2 cents.

If you can get a free stock waterpump then that is my vote. If not personally I would go with a CSI electric waterpump. The best place to get it is probably Summit.

Most people I have talked to have said that the CSI pump is more reliable than the Meizere. The CSI is made from metal whereas the Mez is made from plastic (yet costs $70 more, go figure).

I have been looking for the CSI and I know that use to be like $130 or so, now the cheapest I can find is like $155.

I don't drive the car mush so I'm not worried about getting stranded.

You can take apart the free water pump and see if the propellers are not worn out. Aslo run some water through it and see if the weep hole leaks at all. If all looks good, go with the free pump.

I vote for Mezeire, I'm pretty sure it's not made of plastic like someone said. Sure looked like metal to me. It has an aluminum impellar as well. I definitely noticed a hp gain w/ mine.

Tried JEGS already they are $169.99 now. There must have been a price increase on them or something.

Hmm, the Mez pumps always looked like plastic to me in the pics I saw. However I've never seen one in person, so if it's aluminum I stand corrected.
