Question electric water pump question

Hi all,

I'm new to the board so let me extend a big howdy.

My stock water pump's weep hole is crying up a river. I'm thinking since I have to buy a new one I might as well get a CSI electric pump. But I did a search and looked at the install instructions on the web, and it looks like that swap retains many of the stock mechanical WP's internal parts. Will upgrading to a CSI actually fix the weep hole condition? If not I guess I'll probably get a remanufactured mechanical WP at Kragen...

Thanks in advance for the help.

It only reuses the stock housing. The moving parts are removed, you essentially gut the stock housing and bolt the electric pump into it.

When you install the electric pump you will plug the weephole so it definately shouldn't leak.

Are you sure you want to go this route? While it won't leak, there's a good chance it will fail on you when you are far from home The only reason I run one is so I could run a heavier timing set. I live with it just fine but I know the day will come when it fails, hopefully I'm close to home

Hmm...actually now that you mention it that 5500 hour life span sounds a little weak...that's less than 5000 miles...methinks this mod money might be best spent elsewhere...

How do you figure it's only 5000 miles?
5500 hours equates to 330,000 miles, at 60 miles/hour.

maybe he drives really really slow eh? Just kidding Mellow, it should last for a good long time before it needs replacing and furthermore for the price you could carry a spare and possibly change one on the side of the road as well, its not nearly as involved to change an electric as it is a stock pump.

There's been lots of pumps that have failed well before their rated liftetime, fwiw.

I hope my CSI goes as long as it's supposed to but being an electric pump, I won't be shocked if it fails a bit early.

Yeah, after I posted that, I checked it about 5 times since it sounded kinda high and I didn't want to look like a dumbass.
