Electric Fan Question

Ok when I'm driving my temp stays normal but when I start to sit it starts to rise and I get alittle worried. I was wondering how you can tell if the fans are on because I think maybe they are not turning on. I don't think air is in the system. I am going to get a 160* stat but I don't that will stop the temp from rising at a stand still. Could the stock gauge just be retarded? How can I find out if my fans are turning on?

It's perfectly normal for the temp to rise when you stop. All cars with electric fans do this. The stock fans don't come on until 226°, so it might look like it is getting hot, when it is actually within normal parameters. If you want to see if your fans are coming on, look or listen for them after the temp gets hot enough.

My gauge shows it getting up towards the 260 mark, is that still normal? Would my SES light come on if it gets too hot?

Well, yeah, 260 is too hot if the gauge is correct. At least flip your a/c on to see if the fans come on. You can read about the cooling system and fans here.

Edit: I read my gauge wrong, it doesn't hit 260 or the red area. The highest I've seen it get was the line between 210 and 260. Alittle higher on hotter days, mind you this is when I am not moving. Does this sound right or still off?
