Re: electric cutout?

It goes inline with your exhaust and when you open it, lets the exhaust out there. A popular spot is right after the y-pipe comes together. It is pretty loud if you do it there. It gives a pretty good performance gain over full exhaust.

You can also get manual ones. They're a ton cheaper, but aren't near as convenient.

The E-cutout is exactly that, it allows you to bypass your muffler (or entire exhaust system for that matter) at the flip of a switch or twist of a ****.

It tends to improve the top end power,
there is some debate as to what it does down low and if that matters.

I think the people who cruise around with it open all day do it for the
sound rather than the HP Personally, I'd prefer to shut it while
cruising and open it up for drag racing.

Re: electric cutout?

I cruise around all day with mine open until a cop is eyeing me down then I shut it. Its also great to have it closed and catch a ricer on the highway or at a light and open and up

Re: electric cutout?

My friend had one on his LT1 Z28, and when we dyno'd it, it didn't have any more power with the cutout open than closed. Still sounded cool, though...

Re: electric cutout?

Here are back-to-back dyno results on my car with cutout open vs. closed. 1st run was cutout closed, 2nd was open, and 3rd was closed again. This dyno session was before my headers and tune:

As you can see, the cutout definitely added HP and TQ. I am curious to go back and see what it looks like with the addition of the SLP shorties and the MadZ28 tune.

Thomas.

Re: electric cutout?

A friend of mine got no horse power increase on a H/C car with dual cutouts on a H pipe...but he also had bullet mufflers and no cats, so there wasn't a lot of restrction anway.
