elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
when I done my heads/cam I also put on a csi elec wp. And ever since then on a hot day goin down the highway the temp will verry verry slowly creep its way up. One time I even pulled over and let it cool down for a while. It doesn't do it on an average day or if I'm in town. Only on a hot day on the highway. Anyone know what the problem could be????
Re: elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
if your fans come on at like 220* stock your engine bay will heat soak. I got a csi 160 degree t stat and my fans programmed to cut on at 155* and my car never gets above 170
Re: elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
do you have ground effects? If so you need to add a couple of inches to the bottom of the air dam. The front ground effect would block enough air to heat up the engine. Mine would start to get hot when taking long trips. I added a couple of inches and now it don't get above 180

Perhaps more importantly, are you sure the power and ground wires on the new CSI electric pump aren't reversed? This will spin the pump in the opposite direction and have a direct affect on cooling, though I'm not sure to what extent.
Does the car ever overheat when at a stop (and, are the fans kicking on -- should be able to hear it then)? My car doesn't usually even need fans with a 160 t-stat and the electric pump -- so long as the car is moving. You can test the thermostat in a pot of boiling water -- there's a chamber of wax that expands and forces the t-stat to open. Not likely this is the cause of your problem, though it doesn't hurt to check.
Otherwise, my only advice would be to keep bleeding the system of air pockets via the brass bleeder valves. I've found that bleeding the system with the electric pump is slightly more difficult than with the factory pump.
[Some argue that the electric pumps move the coolant too fast to cool the motor effectively. I'm not sure if this is flawed ideology, though judging that my car does fine on the highway with the same setup, I wouldn't assume it to be the cause.]
Hope you figure it out...

Re: elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
i'm about 95% sure that the wires aren't backwards. And it will stay around 160-180 all day in town or at a stop. only on the highway does it heat up. is there any way i'm not getting full power to the pump??
Re: elec wp. doesn't keep up on the highway
You shouldn't need the fans at highway speeds. They are usually programmed to go off at about 60mph anyway.
If your water pump was wired backwards you would overheat at idle more than likely.

I would almost garuntee you are not getting sufficient airflow through the radiator. Have you checked to see if there is a bunch of crap stuck between it and the a/c condenser? Maybe the front clip has come undone in there in front of the radiator blocking some of the air. I would say look around in there and just check it out. Couldn't hurt.
