Elec. water pump hookup suggestions

I have my water pump connected so that it comes on when the key is on but I've been doing a lot of tuning lately and the battery drains. So I'm looking for a solution to have the water pump come on automatically only when needed. I thought maybe I could hook it up so the fan would trigger it when it comes on at about 180 degrees. Some suggested to use the fuel pump trigger so it would come on when the engine is on. Where is this if it is a good idea? Any other suggestions?

Not a good idea. You need the water constantly flowing or you will get hot spots. Not a good thing.

There is a Guide to water pump install out there for a Merzier Pump that is pretty good link appears below, hope it's helpful
http://www.projecttransam.com/projects9.asp

Now I wasnt quite clear on where power was to come from, but it appears it is hook up thru the Breaker box in the engine compartment. I havent put my mezier in just yet, i was hoping for a clearer explaination of where to hook up power.

Just put in an interrupt switch to open the circuit when not needed.

I thought of that but I was hoping to figure out some way to do it automatically. Like have it come on only when the engine is actually running. I was told it could be done by using the fuel pump trigger but I can't figure out how.

The wiring will be the same as in the link, exept splice into the fuel pump line for the trigger that goes to the relay for your W.P.

The pump will only operate when the engine is running, except for the 2 second prime when you turn the key to "on".

I need to do this on mine as well.
I had an opti go out on me a few weeks ago, the tow truck nerd left the key on, so the pump ran the whole way back to the house. End result, dead battery to go along with my opti...

Re: Elec. water pump hookup suggestions

why not use a switch like someone mentioned. you just flip it off underneath the hood when you aren't running the car. I wouldn't want to cut up my wiring harness and re-wire everything just for tuning purposes.

The problem with a switch is that you might forget to turn it back on.
