Elbow Boot is Ripped around TB, will a New one make any difference???

My stock intake elbow has a ripped in it along the TB, I was wondering if it would rob me of power??? It whistles pretty good. Is a Vortech Elbow and CAI the best choice, or should I get a Ram Ait kit for my 98-02 SS Hood????

Thanks Fellas!

Any air let in between the MAF and the TB will cause errors in the calculations for fuel. Plus you are letting unfiltered air into the engine.

I'd get a Ram Air system for your hood. It's too cool

i had the same issues, i ordered the vortech and what a difference it makes. Biggest difference is idle. My car has always idled very smoothly and quiet, but with the elbow its even better. I can barely feel my car running, of course I can still hear it though.

Your sig says 93/98 or whatever. Who's to know if you don't say?

The unfiltered air is plenty enough reasone to get it fixed.

Thanks. I just listed it as 93/98 because of the LS1 front end.

You're still screwing the system up!!

Speed-density requires a very accurate reading of the inlet air temperature, in order to calculate the "density" part of air flow. By leaking the filthy, hot air from behind the hot radiator into the crack in the elbow, you are in effect bypassing the IAT sensor.

So let's see.... the air is filthy and unfiltered, causing unnessesary wear to the engine..... it is hot, meaning you are losing power because of the reduced density..... it is messing with the speed-density tune, possibly causing it to run rich......

Hard to understand why you would even ask the question... the answer is obvious. A length of duct tape would solve it until you can get a new elbow.....

LOL, a week after I bought my car the rpms got stuck around 2k. I got to looking and the throtle wasnt closing. I took the elbow off, and it was cracked, and someone tried to fix it with duct tape The tape got sucked into the TB, and was holding the plates open Anyway, I just installed my vortech elbow today, and its sweet!! It takes some modifications, but its well worth it

thats the same with my car. I was just checking around to see if anything was done to the car when I first got it, so I took the elbow of and see some duct tape holding a rip on the rim of the elbow(that connects to the TB) luckily I found it before it was too late!

My car runs a bit rich, and I KNOW the elbow is sucking some air. Hopefully getting a new elbow will fix this? and, hey, whats up anasazi [H]

I had my elbow fall apart and hold my TB wide open. I went for a wild ride before I turned the key off.
