EGR Valve Blockoff
EGR Valve Blockoff
I wanted to know if it is nessary for me to remove my EGR valve from the back of the intake ? I have no emissions on the car and didn't know if blocking the egr with a plate would be better and also getting rid of the vac. hose on top of the EGR.... I did a search but just wanted other opinions....,
Thanks Chris
Thanks Chris
You can defeat the EGR system simply by blocking the riser pipe that comes up from the #8 exhaust primary. Leaving the valve on the intake will have no affect one way or the other. A possible downside would be a leaking gasket or leaking pintle seal on the EGR valve, which would allow a vacuum leak, but that is unusual.
Once the EGR system is no longer functional, you can disconnect the vacuum lines, from the intake to the EGR solenoid, and from the solenoid to the EGR valve. Only the connection at the intake manifold needs to be capped. Removing the solenoid will set a code, unless you program it out, or substitue and equivalent resistor.

Thanks for the reply ... Would you suggest removig the valve anyway and blocking it off? I also have the vacc line running to the EGR from the intake should that be disconnected?
Thanks Again for the fast reply...

Yeah ...take it off and block it with a plate. Also block off where the tube goes into the intake from the exhaust(you can just put the blockoff plate between the tube mounting plate and the intake if you dont want to fool with taking the tube completely off.
You can get rid or all the egr crap then but you will have to program out the egr in the pcm if you remove the silinoid the harness plugs into or it will throw a code.
