EGR tube Question...

I had a shop install my Hooker LT's and i just am trying to make sure they blocked off my EGR correctly. There is a silver tube that runs from the back of the intake and goes towards the passenger side. It is still on there but nothing is connected to it. The tube is basically just hanging there. Is that how it is supposed to be?

The EGR is in two parts , one part has a tube that runs from the intake to the exhaust manifold, the other right next to it has the EGR valve. If they installed your Hooker's and just left that tube hanging -get an EGR blockoff ASAP. I made one with my EGR tube, I simply took the end that connected to the intake, cut off the tube, then with the small plate that had two holes I made a metal cover with two bolt holes to fit under it. Coated it good with red silicone and it didn't leak for two years. The other part that looks like a bell you can just leave there, or remove it and get a plate for it. Here's an EBAY aution that has all the parts. The third place in the pic is for the manifold, which you won't need. So make your own or get some blockoff plates.

How did you know what you were doing. I can't see behind my intake at all. Can i just plug up the tube?

Well if you look at the end that's dangling you'll see what I mean when I say its nearly impossible to plug the tube. You could try to cover the end with something. As far as seeling back there its actually rather easy, get a good light and shine it back under the firewall while standing on the passenger side. You'll see where the tube connects to the back of the intake. Unbolting it is easy, though you may have to feel your way. The EGR valve is to the right of where the tube connects to the intake (looking at it from the passenger's side). There's actually alot of room back there, though it doesn't look like it.

Okay thanks for the help. So i can just leave the EGR Valve(the bell looking thing) there. Then the part with the tube coming off it just has to bolts and then it comes off right? The tube and all? Then just use a blockoff plate to cover that up right?

Yes. There are two "studs" in the manifold, so all you need to do is remove the two nuts that hold the tube to the studs. Then put a block-off plate on the opening and put the nuts back on. Some people will use a thin gauge block-off plate over the hole, then put the tube back on with the two nuts to sandwich the block-off to the manifold.

You do not need to remove the EGR valve or the solenoid. It can all be left alone. Or you can block it if you want to get rid of it.

Depends what you want to block off, but you don't need the 2LT1-EGR kit... that includes the diamond shaped plate to block off the opening for the tube in the manifold, and another small plate to block off the connection on the exhaust manifold/headers. Your header connection doesn't exist.

You would need the 2LT1-INT, and that would get you the plate to block the hole in the intake for the tube, and aplate to block the hole in the intake for the EGR valve.

If you are leaving the EGR valve in place, you could just make your own small diamond shaped plate out of some sheet metal, drill the holes in it and put some "sensor safe" RTV on it as a seal.

I know GM sells the EGR blockoff plate, because it was used on the LT4 Corvettes. I would assume they also sell the tube blockoff plate as well, but I'm not positive.
