EGR trouble

O.K. guys and girls, Has anyone else has trouble with their EGR sticking and throwing codes on the interstate? My car is a 97 and there is a recall on that and the airpump. Well, the dealer replaced it once and now, 3months later it's sticking again. And my car only has 18,000 miles so it's not burning oil or anything. I know the emissions are covered for 8yrs/80,000 miles under federal program but it's getting to be a PITA to keep bringing it back. Thanks for any feedback. Emile

Is that all it does? It only throws codes? Cuz I had a problem, kinda like that, when i would punch it, the throttle would stick a little, my mechanic said it could be the EGR, but it turned out to be a faulty throttle cable. But, i guess yours sounds a little different.

I had the EGR code untill I replaced the EGR myself. Didnt want to deal with the dealer here. The sealing materials in these valves were defective. GM has a new revised valve now which is the one I put in and the code went away for good. The original valve was leaking so bad you could smell fumes under the hood.

If you have non-stock, free-flowing exhaust, you can expect EGR codes from time to time. The afore mentioned revised valve may help, though.
