EGR stud, need bolt size.

I ruined the old bolts when taking them off and I am in need of new ones for the studs that hold on the EGR stuff. I purchased the EGR block off plates and I am trying to locate the correct bolt size for the studs.

Thanks.

Ok thanks, I went down to the local hardware store before I got your post and got some 5/16" nuts but it looks like the wrong thread size because they wont thread on like the old ones did. I guess I will head back.

Thanks for the info.

They are a metric thread. 4 mm by 1.5 I think, its the standard 4mm thread.

Re: EGR stud, need bolt size.

Doh. Well I was able to get the standard 5/16 x 18 nut over the studs, however the flang style at 5/16 x 18 did not work. So I am not sure. I have 1 flang style that I salvaged from the removal of the EGR and it threads all the way down to the intake. The new 5/16 x 18 flang ones that I purchased from the store do not. They stop right as you get to the end of the nut and will not thread any deeper. I figure since the block off plates are aluminium the stainless steel 5/16 x 18 nuts will match so I will just use non flang style.

If anyone has anymore insite as to what style/size flang nut would work I would appreciate it. I just like to make sure everything is as stock looking as possible.

Your right mine won't fit a 4mm either because they are 8 by 1.25mm. I had a brain fart when I typed 4mm

8mm=.3149 inches
5/16=.3125 inches

They are very close in diameter as well as pitch
5/16-18 pitch =.055 inches
8by1.25pitch =.0492 inches

Sorry for the confusion

Re: EGR stud, need bolt size.

5/16-18 is spec'd in the parts book, plus the nuts are 1/2 wrench size. That pretty much makes them non-metric the way I see it.

Re: EGR stud, need bolt size.

Normally I would agree with ya shoebox, but I tried the 5/16 x 8 size flang size and they defiantly dont fit. I think the parts book is referring to a non flanged style or something. A normal 5/16 x 8 nut does fit however.

I didn't say 5/16 x 8.

All I said was the thread and pitch were 5/16-18. The nuts you choose are up to you.

Re: EGR stud, need bolt size.

it is 5/16" wide with 18 threads per inch thread pattern. Should not matter if it has a flange or not unless it is a locking nut. If it screws down most of the way, sounds like you have the wrong thread pattern

Re: EGR stud, need bolt size.

As far as the studs are concerned, what is the thread size for the part that is threaded into the intake? When I bought my intake for P/P, the studs had been removed. I have the blockoff plates and now need to know the thread size of the stud in the intake. Is the same size listed above?

97pontta, I really like your intake... bet that would look good with my polished valve covers .
