Egr question. Need HELP
Egr question. Need HELP
Ok, so the header install is done finally but i was left with the egr tube from the passenger side hanging there. I decided i would just plug it with a rubber stopper. Will this be a problem???? How do you remove the whole system?
Re: Egr question. Need HELP
I assume your headers have no EGR connection, so you plugged the end of the corrugated pipe that used to connect to the #8 runner?
The "plug" won't hurt anything, but you run the risk of it falling out. The cheap way to fix it is simply to cut a diamond shaped piece from a Coke can, drill a hole in the top and bottom to match the bolt locations on the intake manifold, and sandwich the "plate" between the corrugated tube and the manifold. A little sensor-safe RTV on n the manifold side of the plate wouldn't hurt either.
The complete system could be removed, with aluminum blocking plates for the tube connection and the EGR connection on the back of the intake.

The EGR solenoid, on a bracket at the drivers side/rear of the intake manifold also need to have the vacuum connection capped off. Removing the solenoid is possible, but you would get an SES light unless you had the operation programmed out of the PCM or used a resistor in place of the solenoid.
A assume you are also aware that even the OBD-I cars include a diagnostic that MAY be able to detect a missing EGR system. 95% of the 93-95 cars don't have a problem with this, but the other 5% end up with an SES light. Again, this can be "programmed out" of the PCM

Re: Egr question. Need HELP
SO, plugging it wont affect the engines operation. Also, after i installed the headers it ran REALLY rich for a couple of minutes and then stopped. Is this normal, or is something going on?
