what are the symptoms of a bad EGR and also are there anyways to check it mine doesnt show a check engine light but everyonce in awhile it will act up when I go to start it it wont stay running and if it does it will idle really bad then die but if I keep my foot on the gas enough to get it down the road it will run fine.

 

When my EGR went out, the SES light came on intermittingly, but it did not effect the cars performance. If your car is a 93, I dont even know if it will throw a code

The 93 EGR diagnostics are not very sensitive, and its possible to completely eliminate the EGR system without getting a code in most cases.

You need to determine if the EGR valve is leaking. That would make it hard to start and idle rough. But its not likely the problem would go away as the engine warms up. There are numerous other reasons for hard start, including fuel system problems, coolant temp sensor problems, etc.
