EGR Plates... Do I Really need them????
Just like it says in the title.... I put on a set of Hooker LT's, without all the emissions crap, got all that tuned out, SO do I NEED to put the EGR block off plates.....
If i dont what happens...... Been running it like this for a while.... THNX fellow LT1ers....

You cant leave a big hole back there. You dont need the plate where the valve is but you should have one where the EGR tube was. I dont see how you arent experiencing some vacuum problems with no plate plugging where the ERG tube was.

You must have one helluva vacuum leak right now!
EDIT: I guess you don't need to block the valve hole if you leave the valve on there. You would then need to block where the hose was.
Take a look at this picture

I posted that and some other nice pics in this thread

the back of the intake has 3 holes. 1 on the passanger side where the flex tube goes, and two on the egr side... the egr valve cover both up.
what the egr valve does is when it opens, it lets the exhaust from the bottom hole(that comes from the hole on the passanger side) into the egr valve then out the top hole into the intake
so if you block the egr side you will not have a vacume leak

Duct tape...that's going to last
I took a thin steel sheet, used the gasket (flex tube intake port) as a template, and made a block off plate that I placed between the gasket and the flex tube.

I fabbed my own up, using the existing hardware. I.E. I got my welder filled in the holes where the flex tube used to be and just made it all smooth and pretty... I left the egr valve it self untouched.... Dont know if it hurts anything, but its all promed out... Just block off the 2 holes 1 on the header it self, 1 on the manifold youll be fine.. I just did it tonight actually

well i was planning on just making some templates out of paper and cutting some thin metal with the plasma cutter and doing a good job but i figured if you could get them for 15 bucks i might as well just buy some.
