EGR not lining up.

after running into enough problems as it is installing my pacesetter long tubes.....i finally, after about 15 hours of work got them both bolted up.

NOW, the FREAKING EGR fitting on primary #8 isn't where it should be, the EGR comes about a 1/4 inch shy of going in.

it's not that it's not long enough, it's too far to the side. and the transmission dipstick is in the way of letting me bend it any further.

if i had it to do over again i would have bought the non emmissions headers and deleted the air/egr.

any suggestions on what i can do?
if i start it up without the EGR fitting on there will it just be like having a big exhaust leak? then maybe i could take it to someone with a welder or something and have them fix it. at this point i'm ready to pay someone.

woe is me.

Get some EGR blockoff plates.

Unbolt it from the intake manifold. Bolt it up to the fitting on the header and then pull it back on to the intake. Works a lot better.

This is good advice. That is why I elect to go !EGR/!AIR, but hindsight is 20/20

Do NOT run it with the opening in the #8 tube unplugged. Good way to possibly burn a valve. Either block it off or try as noted above to get the tube to fit. You can buy the blockoff plates from several sources, including this one:

And if you do get teh EGR blocked off on the manifold, be SURE you plug up the tube on the header. And then you have to get the EGR programmed out of the car's PCm or it will throw a code.

So your pretty much saying to bolt it on the header side first?

I have pacesetter headers as well and can not get this damn line in. I was going to unbolt the transmission dipstick, but that bolt is a paint to get out and i don't know if that would be enough to clear it or not.

Did you ever make that work? If so let me know and give me some details on how you got it to work. I'm gunna give it a try today, and if it does not work, i'm going with block off plates. But I am not sure what kind of gaskets will work with these high temps on the headers. Although they are coated.

-Thanks,
Tagz

i did eventually get it to work, but i had to remove the transmission dipstick.

i' currently do not even have a transmission dipstick, i pulled it out and in doing so i bent the hell out of it, causing a crimp that won't let the dipstick go through.

so now i'm going to order a new one. and some EGR block off plates.
i just have my tranny tube hole plugged for now.

reweld what? the egr tube? that things like tinfoil. a weld would melt it.

Perhaps we are talking about 2 different things. I know that my SLP dual cat shorties had to be cut and rewelded because the tube on the Pass side rear header was not positioned such that it could be easily hooked up.

Actually pi$$ed me off because my headers had just been coated and the weld kinda messed up the nicely coated weld.

I don't know why the tube wasn't dead on, but the mech. who installed the headers apparently figured that was the best way to go.

oh i see, the tube coming from the header is what you're talking about. that'd be a good idea i suppose IF the headers were out of the car.

block off plates is the easiest way.
