EGR Help
EGR Help
I've done quite a few searches and have come up with nothing. I just baught a 96' WS6. When the previous owner was installing the BBK headers he had welded shut the hole on the #8 primary that the EGR tube hooks to.. So, obviously it through the code. I don't have money for new headers and I need the light off to pass St. Louis emissions. From what I've read if I have the computer redone, it will turn the ligh toff but when the emissions people hook up, it will read, "system not ready" I've also read about pulling the egr valve off and setting up a new circuit with a resistor to keep lights off and keep from throwing codes. If anyone has the info On this circuit please send it to me @ tommyh5@sbcglobal.net Any help is greatly apprieciated.

Re: EGR Help
"Programming" the code out turns the light off, but may trigger a "system not ready" code. You are sometimes allowed to pass with one or two "not ready" codes.... depends on the juridstiction.
There are two EGR codes.... one for the missing vacuum solenoid. That simply requires a resistor in the harness connector for the solenoid. Then there's the code for the PCM not seeing the required change in MAP voltage when it cycles the EGR valve. There is a circuit that inserts a resistor in the MAP sensor circuit when the EGR solenoid is actuated. A "search" of the forums should help you find a link to the procedure.
Just a helpful hint.... you generally get the best results if you check back for responses after you post your question. You can set the system to automatically notify you via e-mail if you get a response. Asking people to e-mail you generally doesn't produce good resulte.

Re: EGR Help
Thanks for hor the tip, I'm new here. I guess it's worth a shot getting the computer reprammed. I've done multiple searches and still haven't come up with the circuit to put resister in. Also, should I send it to PCMforless or do you have a better recommendation?
thanks

Re: EGR Help
I got the info on the egr sim.
I just emailed it to tom.
It took care of the P0 400 egr code and worked for me to pass my obd2 scan last year with the monitor reading ready.
This year I had the pcm tuned to have the monitors read ready
right away so I'm not using the egr sim any more.
However if anyone wants to use an egr sim I can email them some pics and a diagram with some instructions.
Essentially you use a car alarm relay.
Power comes from the wires going to the egr valve.
The other side of the relay puts a 75 ohm resistance across the center and rear wires of the MAP sensor. When the pcm commands the egr to open it trips the relay which applies the resistence and fools the pcm telling it the right amount of pressure drop has occured, this no P0 400 code and SES light.
