EGR delete

What do I need to do to successfully delete the egr system on my 94 Z28. I have the front of the engine apart at the moment to replace the opti and waterpump and figuring maybe I can get rid of that crap and clean up the engine bay some....

Re: EGR delete

I believe just a block off plate and you may need to "tune" out the EGR with regards to the PCM. I will be doing this as well but havent really researched it for this car much yet but from what i know from other vehicles this may be all that is needed. Im sure i will be corrected soon if im wrong

There are no components of the EGR system on the front of the engine. It's all on the back, and not very visible. Could you possible be asking about the AIR system, which has the electric pump mounted on the front of the engine? EGR and AIR are two different systems, with two different purposes.

Re: EGR delete

I thought it might be a part of the egr system... So what exactly does the AIR system do.... And is it needed? It's the black round canister on the lower drivers side of the engine. Now that I think about it the egr valve is an the rear of the engine behind the intake, right? Is the AIR system similar to the round charcoal canister on some older vehicles?

Re: EGR delete

After some research I'm figuring that this is just a air pump for the cat, right. But this had a electric motor in it and is not belt driven..... Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct it's just there to heat up the cat faster on start up.

Re: EGR delete

I took mine off recently, no real use for it if you don't need emissions. I didn't take the air check valves out of the manifolds though, I couldn't get them out and the hex heads or whatever they are were distorted so I couldn't get anything on them to wrench them out. I bought vacuum caps and just capped the valves and the port on the intake for the other hose from the pump. No problems.

Re: EGR delete

i dont see a point for deleting it without the emissions ready headers, in which case you have to delete it. as far as the EGR system goes, on stock cars its commenly just deleted to clean up engine bay
