EGR causing this wierd smell?

Ok..I got a EGR Code P0400 a few weeks ago. I was under the impression, and did alot of research to find out that there is a free "recall" or "campaign" on that code. SO I brought it into GM..and they told me there was no recall or anything...and charged me $50 to fix it. When I picked it up, they said that one of the EGR "tubes" or "hoses" was hanging off of the "soliniod" or whatever (I don't even know what they were talking about) and that a nut was missing. They said they fixed it, did a road test...and thats it.
Well less than a week later..I get the same code. SO I go in and basically ask them why when I payed for it to be fixed, is it still on
After the guy telling me that they NEVER replaced the bolt, that maybe that is the reason why it is still flashing. So after me arguing with him that I SHOULDN'T have to pay the $50 again..he says he'll do it for free ONE TIME. Well since I think it should be done for free until they fix it...I told him forget it (I would rather deal with it myself or at another GM before letting himself think he is doing a "good thing" )

ANyways...I was wondering if something is disconnected back there...would it have anything to do with this "burnt rubber" smell I have been getting for about the time the code has been up?
Any help is appreciated!

thanks

It should have been fixed for free on your first trip in to the dealer. I would go back and talk to the service writer, be nice, you catch more flies with honey than vinagar. Ask him to look up
"Special Policy Adjustment #00096"
Basicly if you have a P0400 code your get a updated EGR valve, no charge, the car is covered for 10years/100,000 miles on this item.
If he gives you any shi!, ask to talk to the service Manager (his boss) If this does not resolve the issue, ask for the name and phone# of the reginal service rep. If you don't get that, leave and then email me and I'll get it for you. GM Corp does not like this kinda shi! going on, and they well have someones ****. You could also try a different dealer. Good luck.

you should get your fifty bucks back too.

**** YEAH!
I like the way you get down

Naw..when I went in the first time, I TOLD him that I post on a VERY POPULAR message board on the net, and that I have read and heard from tens and twentys of people (you guys), that it should be free.
So now I am going to go in there with this Special Policy BS and see what he says!

Also...you wouldn't happen to know where I can get this on some kind of "legitimate" paper?.... so I have PROOF...and not just saying how I heard about it....again

let me know...and thanks ALOT!!!!

Woohoooo 50 more bucks to spend

Does this "Special Policy adjustment" apply if you installed headers. I am one of the 96-97 guys having this annoying code. I am running Hooker shorties with high flow Y-pipe/no cats, with a bullet style muffler finshed with whats remaining of my loud mouth system. I have doubled and triple checked for leaks etc. My car is running excellent just the code pops up every time I clear it with my scanner. Just looking for info to rid me of this problem. Any Help is appreciated.
