egr block off question

i know this has been discussed but i am still confused after searching on the lt1 board. i am getting a block off plate for the valve. i am also getting a block off plate for the egr feed tube( i am assuming this is the egr pipe, where it goes into the intake). i have two questions: what can i use to plug the manifold that the egr pipe connects too? also, how should i plug the vacuum line for the egr valve? sorry for the similar questions being asked over and over, i am just a little confused still. thanks

Steve Monte at z28freak@hotmail.com makes plates for all 3 openings. Plug the vacuum line with a cap at its source, the intake manifold. You are going to have the EGR programmed out or draw an SES light.

Steve and his products and service are great you will not be dissapointed. On 93-95 cars you can just remove the vaccume lines and not worry about programming it out. On 96-97 you have to get the EGR programmed out or like above you will throw a SES light.

How much are steve's plates? Until now, I've been looking to make my own block offs from sheet metal b/c the only other block offs I know of are TPIS and cost like $12 each =\

I am sure Steve has a great product and service too.
But, if you are handy and have some extra time on you hands and some metal cutting tools you can make your own block off plates from 1/8 inch aluminum. I chose this metal because it is easy to work with.

I just got some aluminum plate, marked it with a felt tip marker, drilled out the bolt holes, cut the pc with a jig saw, used some gasket sealer and that was it.

I understand on the 93 you must leave the electronic module that has the vacuum lines connected on the drivers side of the engine because the car will not run or hardly run.

If you don't have the tools or time, see Steve.

<--- Has the tools, not the time....If Steve's are cheap, then I'll try to decide whether the few $$$ is worth my limited time. Anyone got a price on Steve's block offs?

i have a 95 so i should not get an ses. so i should remove the vacuum line on the drivers side of the intake and plug it with a vacuum cap? i believe this line goes to the egr solenoid. do i need to leave the solenoid and all lines on there? also, i think a 22M plug will work on the manifold but i just want to make sure. i think i will be getting the plates from tpis just because i was going to order a new throttle body plate along with the 2 egr plates. thanks

i still don't see how introducing hot exhaust gas into the combustion chamber lowers the temp.

yeah, i don't see how hot gases lower the temp either. i talked to someone that blocked the egr on a 93 z and he said the car runs cooler now in city traffic than it did before just cruising around. i have also been told that blocking the egr harms fuel economy a bit. i am not sure why but i would like to know. also, did anyone notice a loss in power with the egr blocked? help would be great. thanks

I also read this in my Haynes manual and this lead me to search for more info on the subject. I'm not saying don't do the mod, I just thought the more info you had on the subject would make you more aware of the changes you are about to make and the possible outcome.
