Unhappy Egr

EGR is messed up so I need to clean or replace. Anybody have an install guide for maybe the blockoff route that I could follow? Also, when I do block it off, where do you get a plate for the intake? Or do you leave that part on and plug the line? TIA

Steve has the plates you need for all 3 spots that need to be blocked off, 2 intake manifold and 1 on the exhaust manifold. I just blocked off both spots on the intake, you dont need a guide for it. Its one of the simplest things you can do. The bigger plate goes where the solonoid is on the driver's side rear of the intake manifold and the smaller goes where the line tube is on the pass rear of the intake manifold. All there is to it. The nuts were 10mm if I remember correctly.

THere is no point in a guide to replace it I just replaced mine. I have one tip: make sure the bolts are tight. I didnt and paid for it since it was letting hot gassing go by the gasket and make my intake manifold leak turn a slow drip into a waterfall not cool. It takes about 30 mins to replace. Tip two: tie a piece of string around the wrench (half inch btw) when you take the bolts off, or if you drop it you will see it again. Dont ask how i know why. To actually take the valve off, remove the vacuum hose from the top of valve. Remove the two bolts. remove valve and old gasket. Put new gasket on. Put new valve on, TIGHTEN bolts, reattach vacuum line and go. The valve is on the very back of the intake. When you get the new one it will be obvious which part it is.

Thanks for the replies. Do you think I could clean the thing successfully? I have jet hot LTs and am not ready to block as I can't program it out. Is it also possible to block it, but visually have it intact with those plates?

i dont know anything about the block off plates, but cleaning it is kinda iffy. Some have success, some dont. I would just buy a new one personally.

It's been a while since I got mine from Dal, but I thought it was more like $35. What about Jason Cromer or gmpartsdirect?

I have jet hot LTs and am not ready to block as I can't program it out.
What year is your car? If you block the valve, its the same to the PCM as if you totally eliminated it. On the 93-95's, the code is more of a 50/50 thing... some get it some don't. On the 96/97's the code is a sure thing.

You can block the riser tube from the headers by simply cutting a thin piece of sheet metal, putting RTV on both sides and sandwiching it in between the flange on the riser tube and the back of the intake. Totally isolates exhaust from the intake manifold .... but will will set a code as noted above.

It is a 96. I can't have codes due to emissions. I am going to try and clean it up this weekend and work on getting Lt1 edit so I can delete the thing and not even block it. That will work correct?
