Edelbrock LT Performance

well, reading my CHP magazine, found this little thing on the edelbrock packages
"Performer LT1 power package"
"Edelbrocks performer lt1 cylinder heads, rpm air-gap intake, matching camshaft, and throttle body work together to deliver outstanding performance from idle to 5500+ rpm. Sold seperately, these components are dyno-matched and street proven. In fact, the edelbrock heads beat the stock LT1 aluminum heads by 24hp in back-to-back dyno tests. With 170CC intake/60cc exhaust ports, 54cc combustion chambers and 1.94" intake/1.55" exhaust valves, edelbrock heads are direct bolt on powerful replacements. Add the edelbrock camshaft and you'll get more power. Independent tests found that the heads/cam combo beat the stock vette LT1 by 73hp and 36 ft/lbs. Check out the rest of that story on the enginemasters.com website. cam lift is .525/.525 and duration @50 is 218/218. The LT1 manifold tops off this awesome combo with a race-winning air-gap design that provides a cooler denser air/fuel charge for more power. Add an edelbrock TB in either 52mm or 58mm for max flow.

"LT4 POWER PACKAGE"
pretty much says the same thing, except it delivered 406hp and 356ft/lbs with the LT5 heads, lt4 manifold, and 52mm TB.

Sounds like they're getting a step in the right direction for a very streetable but quick car, they just need work on their LT1 heads, and i think they'll be a great buy.

I wouldn't put too much thought into what the magazine articles come up with, I'm sure they are getting a nice kickback for "advertising." Were these power numbers flywheel or at the wheels?

Numbers are flywheel.

They did a complete package on a car a couple of years ago and it was pathetic, didn't even break the 300rwhp mark from what I remember.

flywheel

im just curious about what the curve looks like though, it seems to be about the power level of a hotcam bolt on car, im sure with some headers/exhaust, and other bolt ons, the LT4 package would be a pretty fun street package, not anything amazing, but fun on the street for sure

If I'm not mistaken, the stock LT1 heads have 170cc intake volume and the same size valves. If your looking for a head cam package go with Advanced Induction or Lloyd Elliot, you'll get way more. To keep down time to a minimum you could get some LT1 heads off ebay, send them off to be worked and re-sell your stockers after your finished. Make shure they are casting numbers 10207643 or 10128374. For that matter I have a set of stock LT1 heads (casting number 10207643) off my car I'll sell you if your interested in going that route.

This point has been argued before, but a package from Lloyd would make more power and probably be cheaper.

I already have my 383 planned out, and it'll be a lot more radical than an edelbrock package, and hopefully one of the more radical N/A cars here on the boards
