Edelbrock heads arrived today..
well the ups man brought the backordered heads today.. I took pics and will upload them to my site when I have time (full time grad student)..
Initial inspection.. not bad! definitely a cut above stock.. they have some initial cnc porting to smooth the intake and exhaust runners.. maybe 1/4 " of it on the exhaust side and 3/4 to 1" of it on the intake side.. The casting looks good essentially like a ported head with a cast finish.. the area around the valve guides is smoothed and shaped and the short side radius has no ridges on it.. valves look like manleys with an undercut stem.. springs are singles with a damper.. though claimed up to .600 lift the booklet says they are only reliable to 6500 rpm as a recommended max safe rpm..
so I thought I may have some work done to these but they don't seem to need it.. at least not for my application.. the only problem I see is the small runner volume (170cc).. other than that not too shabby..

Was going to get them flowed.. but as a student I am now too poor to do it.. the best I will be able to get is pics, and track/dyno numbers eventually.. I will be using a 224/230 cam with these and a program from madz28.com...
the ports look good, after reading the threads before I thought I would end up with two boxed of scrap aluminum, but they are quality peices.. with the concerns mentioned about runner volume above.. they are also heli-coiled for the headers which I thought was a nice touch..
Deck thickness according to the manual is 5/8ths.. spring daimeter 1.450, installed height 1.8, 120 lbs seated, 340 lbs @ .600,
regardless I know this doesn't get down to how they perform..just my out of the box impression.. they should go in this weekend if I get enough time..

I had to trade them to go with a six speed swap for the 82, but in a funny coincidence my roomie bought the heads off the guy I traded for the tranny.. so now their home will be a fresh cammed lt1 in a nice caprice...
I will still be able to tell you how they work for him.. Unfortunately not for me!
I actually think those heads will be better off in a Caprice than an F-body. Why? The small runner volumes will promote good intake velocity, leading to better low and midrange torque numbers...exactly what a Caprice/Impala needs.

Color me curious
