How much can a lt1 gain with edelbrock mid headers? ive heard theri preatymuch shorty headers, so would the gains be minimal? if so, how much would they gain.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

I had them. I don't know for sure what the exact gain was but I could certainly feel it. I could spin the tires forever and a day in first gear until it would shift and then still get a chirp out of it in second. Definately worth the time over keeping stock manifolds. Everything fit great also so quality wasn't really an issue. Not the best header out there but certainly not a P.O.S. either. The smaller tubes seemed to boost torque. I am sure HP suffered a bit. If I had to guess I would say their estimates of around 15-20 would be close.

I can't speak for everyone, but my car would spin entirely through first and burn 'em in second bone stock - sure, it had the crappy stock tires, but thats nothin to be proud of.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

I gained 2.5 mph and .2 sec [in 1/4 ]with them.. more with them then the Borla[ did headers before Borla also, so that's thru STOCK catback]..
I was pretty pleased.. good fit etc also.. and good if you have smog test etc..

Your car has 27,000. Mine had 135,000. I have since rebuilt and went with jet hots but that was cause I got a 383 now. My point being it certainly increased torque. With sticky tires and some suspension work you should pick up MPH while dropping E.T.

Don't buy Edelbrock Headers. Get Longtubes.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

i had a set of them on both of my fbodys. i gained 29 rwhp with the headers and hpp. i figure i gained about 20 rwhp from the headers and the rest from the hpp. if you had a choice and werent worried about emmissions, i would most definitely get some long tubes. the only gripe that i have about the edelbrocks is that they burn plug wires, but they make pretty good hp and have all the emmission hookups and good ground clearance. oh yea, they are pretty cheap too.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

Unless you are getting a great deal on them, I would look at MAC Midlength headers. You can get them Jet Hot Coated, shipped to your door with the Y-pipe for about $560.

Uncoated, they are in the $400+ range for the headers and Y-pipe.

I gained 4 mph, and 0.55 seconds in the 1/4 mile with them and the hooker catback.
HP gain was 35 rwhp with the headers and catback, and 31 rwtq.

Plus access is incredible. I'm using stock wires, and stock routing without ANY worry of burnt wires.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

The Edelbrocks are great for the price. I've had mine for 5 years, never a leak, never a burnt wire and made some decent numbers with my mods and with nitrous. They are plenty, many people laugh at them but with certain mods/hp you only need so much. Depends on what you're going to do with the car.

I did gears at the same time but I picked up .4 and 5mph

THis guy hits the nail on the head every time. The only reason I have these edelbrocks, is because I purchased them super cheap...brand new. In my honest opinion if I paid more for them I'd be pissed. Plug access is the worst... I actually go through the trouble of taking the Driverside header off to put plugs in. Worst part is they get so hot under the hood they cano burn the Devil even. I never planned to keep them on the car... but untill I can get my clutch right I'm kinda stuck with em. Otherwise I'd reccomend any "coated" header. Performance wise these things are alright I think... but compaired to others they can be better. MAC or RK's are the way to go. for the 500.00 range.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

I have a set on my car (wrapped) and have had no problems with them. Plug access was easy for me and I changed the plugs in under a half hour taking my time. Have a set of ceramic coated going in when I do my motor build.

Edelbrock Ceramics are the best price I have come across.

Re: Edelbrock header gains

if you're getting them used, just pay the extra 150 to send them to jethot...no burn problems, no under-hood heat problems, and they would look awesome.
